Purpose
To produce cross-border doctoral students with transferable skills who can intelligently collaborate with others in different fields based on a highly specialized skill, with the aim of creating new value and a sustainable and reliable society.
To provide support for outstanding, aspiring students who will be responsible for the future of science, technology, and innovation in Japan, so that they can go on to doctoral studies without hesitation and choose a wide range of careers that make the most of their abilities, without financial burden or career concerns.
Subjects
Students who will be enrolled in Tokyo Tech’s doctoral program．
Applicants must be willing to contribute to the creation of science, technology, and innovation in Japan even after completing the doctoral course through challenging and interdisciplinary research .

Period
Maximum 3 years
Support will be provided only while enrolled in the doctoral program. If the period of enrollment exceeds three years, support will not be provided for subsequent periods. However, for leave of absence due to life events such as childbirth or childcare, the period of support may be suspended or extended depending on individual circumstances. In addition, if any of the reasons for cancellation of employment apply, the support will be terminated even if the student is still enrolled in the program.
Contents of Support
Support for Pioneering Research Initiated by the Next Generation Plus
(the Next Generation Plus)
This program provides additional research funding support for particularly challenging and interdisciplinary research.
A budget of up to 700,000 yen per year will be allocated only to those who apply and are accepted.
You have one opportunity to apply each fiscal year and may reapply regardless of whether you were successful or unsuccessful in the past.
Off-Campus Study Plus
This program provides additional support for travel expenses for off-campus study, such as long-term study abroad.
Only successful applicants will be allocated a budget based on the duration and destination.
During the support period, you may apply as many times as necessary.

In the first year, I applied for the “Next Generation Plus” program and purchase state-of-the-art research equipment.
In the second year, I want to study abroad. I want to apply for the Off-Campus Study Plus program and go to the U.S. and Singapore to study under famous professors.
In the third year, I want to actively participate in academic conferences in preparation for my doctoral dissertation. I want to apply for the Next Generation Plus because it costs money to correct my dissertation in English and to attend conferences.

I applied for the Off-Campus Study Plus to study abroad in Germany for 10 months, which I had planned since my master’s degree.
In the second year, I applied for the Next Generation Plus in order to offer a gratuity for the cooperation in research and development. Based on my research in Germany, I decided to apply for the Off-Campus Study Plus and study three months in the UK .
In the third year, I will apply for the Next Generation Plus to acquire reagents and materials necessary for research, as well as new equipment.

Since my research is mainly experimental and money is always needed to purchase supplies, I decided to apply for the Next Generation Plus every year.
In the second year, I went to the Netherlands, which I had always wanted to visit, and had the experience of learning cutting-edge knowledge.
From the third year, my life is experiment-centered again. I’ve been cooped up in the lab all the time.
